April 2021 Newsletter

BY NAPO-AZ

President’s Message:

Welcome to our April eNewsletter!

New Website Coming Soon!

The Board is pleased to announce that NAPO-AZ will unveil a new website in April. We have been working with a web designer to bring you a fresh and more functional site, including a streamlined Find a Professional Directory. We appreciate your patience while we transition from the old site to the new one. It will be worth the wait!

Do you have any ideas for improving the look and feel of the website? Is there some content you think would be helpful in giving the public a better understanding of our profession or any resources that would help you learn and grow our business? I invite you to be in touch with me at president@napo-az.com or at 623.499.8384 so your input can be shared with our Board and the web designer.

In March, Aislinn Ellis, our Director of Technology, stepped down from her position. We are so fortunate to have had someone with the depth of Aisi’s experience and her indomitable spirit on the Board. We wish Aisi the very best.

Congratulations to the new Board that was elected in March. And thank you to our Past President, Wendy Wilson, for conducting the search and overseeing the voting process. The installation of officers will take place at our May 13 meeting.

It is time to thank those who served on the Board this past year and to recognize those who went above and beyond in their service to NAPO-AZ and it’s members. This is an amazing group of people who gave so much in such unprecedented times. Thank you!

Let’s “Support” a Donation Partner Who “Lifts Up Women”!

Yes, it is The Bra Recyclers! And as a tie in to Earth Day, our Chapter is accepting a Challenge to collect 50 bras to be recycled by this organization by April 22, Earth Day. Although 95% of used textiles could be recycled, about 85% of textiles go into the landfills. The Bra Recyclers distributes gently used bras to more than 100 women’s groups who in turn support women in need - some having escaped domestic violence and human trafficking. Share this flyer with your clients, collect bras, and bring them to our April 8 meeting. If you can’t make it to the meeting, mail them or drop them off at The Bra Recyclers; 3317 S. Higley Rd, Ste 114-441, Gilbert, AZ 85297. Contact Elaine Birks-Mitchell, CEO/CSO (Chief Sustainability Officer) at 480-988-2283 if you have any questions.

Deb Lawrence,
President

Welcome Spaulding Decon!

As a Professional NAPO Organizer, you will almost certainly receive a call someday asking if you can handle a hoarding situation, facilitate clean up at a crime scene, or help restore a home that has had considerable damage to its contents from water or mold. (Hang onto those face masks!)

If you are not rocking the Hazmat Suit or if Biohazard clean up is not part of your business model - you can still be a good resource to your client and in your community by calling Spaulding-Decon! With over 15 years in the business, they have seen it all. They are CDC-certified in Hoarding, Crime Scene, Mold, and Water Damage. Spaulding Decon is a NAPO National and NAPO-AZ Business Partner. And in many cases, insurance  covers their fees.

NAPO Library-Check It Out!

Professional organizers often discuss “streams of revenue” other than hands-on organizing.  No doubt you have seen one or more of NAPO member Donna Smallin’s many books on the sale rack, or maybe even checked out her website and blogs at www.unclutter.com.  What ideas might you steal from Donna?!

Donna has been organizing, publishing, and speaking for over 20 years.  The last eight years she and her husband lived on the road as she continued to work.  (They are actually now living in Mesa for part of the year, and I believe she is retiring.)

Maybe these simple, cute books will inspire you to turn your knowledge into a new revenue stream.  We also have three NAPO CD’s from a workshop where she shared her secrets on this topic.

- How to Declutter and Make Money Now (2015)
- Clear the Clutter, Find Happiness (2014)
- The One-Minute Organizer A to Z Storage Solutions (2008)
- The One-Minute Organizer Plain & Simple (2004)
- Organizing Plain & Simple (2002)
- Unclutter Your Home: 7 Simple Steps/700 Tips & Ideas (1999)Please let me mail or bring you any of these books, or whatever else suits your fancy from our book and CD collection.

The lists of all available books and CD’s may be found on our NAPO-AZ website along with instructions on how to access conference recordings from NAPO national.  Please feel free to contact me for any help utilizing our chapter or the national resources.
